Something to Bark About at The Mutt House

Grooming Tips from Jacob

Brush and comb your dog Every Day, especially if it’s a long-haired breed. The comb that you should be using preferably is a metal comb so that you can brush from the root of the hair out. Only using a wire brush will keep the top fluffy but will not get the matts out properly. If you have a short-haired dog, invest in a rubber brush to help with the loose hair so your dog’s super short hair won’t get all over you and your house

Why Daycare?

Doggie daycare is great for socialization! It decreases boredom when you work long days. It is great exercise instead of sleeping on the couch all day. And it brings peace of mind while you work knowing they have fulltime care. It exposes the pups to different dogs, people and environment, helping them develop confidence and adaptability.

Most dogs love doggie daycare when they are started young! It’s like school or their own mini vacation while their owners are out of town.

They get to play with other pups, have adventures, and get tons of attention from the staff. Some dogs might take a little time to adjust, but once they do, they can’t get enough.

We offer Packages, Memberships and Daily Rates. We also have Half days as well as Cash Mondays offering a discounted rate. Cash Mondays are only $25 through the end of February. Come & Play!

Mental Stimulation with “Puzzle Toys”

Everyone knows why physical stimulation is needed for the development of our beloved pups, but not everyone understands the importance of MENTAL stimulation. Plus, providing mental stimulation doesn’t have to cost money or take a lot of time.

Mental stimulation, or brain games, helps fine-tune those deep canine instincts, builds confidence, and helps eliminate boredom. If you also decide to hang out with your pup while they work and provide encouragement and praise during their activities, it is a fabulous way to help strengthen your bond with your fur-ever friend.

There are many different types of mental stimulation to fit every need and every different dog personality. A favorite among the canine community and a prime example of an in-depth brain game would be puzzle toys for dogs. There are various puzzle toys ranging from easy ‘level 1’ moving up to ‘level 5’ brain teasers. These fun games normally come in the form of hard, pet-safe plastic with a multitude of compartments, switches, levers, buttons, or sliders that the dog has to work with either their nose or paws to free a treat that has been stashed in this puzzle box. After successfully maneuvering the pieces around, the treat falls free, and the dog is rewarded.

So, what exactly does this do for my dog?

Sniffing/smelling is a big part of how your dog views the world, and it is strongly connected to how your pup interacts with its environment. As they sniff around the puzzle toy, they have to work different parts of their brain that they normally wouldn’t have to use in a domestic setting. It helps keep their instincts sharp and their brain focused and can even tire them out slightly afterward. No one wants to be bored, your dog doesn’t want to be either.

Another benefit to puzzle toys is that you can even feed your dog their meals from the toys as well. If your pup tends to gulp their food down too quickly, they can get bloated, uncomfortable, or even throw up from eating too fast. Putting their dry meal in the puzzle toy actively forces them to slow down by only eating a couple of pieces of kibble at a time as they work the toy to make the food fall out. This will help decrease the rapid eating and help their food digest more thoroughly.

We all love to ensure our dogs live their best lives; we provide every comfort they could want. Why not spoil their brain, too? Who knows, maybe you have the next Albark Einstein or Stephen Pawking!  Sign up your pup for Puzzle Time at drop-off.

We now carry Fromm Family Pet Food, AKA Fromm. We carry the Four-Star Line, The Gold Line, and the Diner Line of their cans. We offer it in Dog and Cat formulas. Fromm Four Star is their most popular line, and it includes fun entrees like Beef Frittata, Hasen Duckenpfeffer, and Salmon Tunalini.

The Fromm company has been family owned for five generations out of Wisconsin. They use local farmers and suppliers for their premium ingredients. These ingredients include fresh meats and fish, whole grains, high-quality fats, pre and probiotics, and, depending on the flavor, Wisconsin cheese. They also work with Veterinarians, Nutritionists, Biologists, and many more people to help create a palatable, well-balanced, researched food for your pet. Since the family owns and runs their own production facilities, they do on-site raw testing and implement the HACCP Program (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points).

With all this said, why buy Fromm? It’s a palatable, consistent, well researched food that I think even the pickiest pets would enjoy.

We have plenty of free samples in store, so if you’re thinking about switching foods, come and check us out. Also, if you go to the Fromm Family website and sign up, you can save $5
